Dan Henderson To Fight Rich Franklin For A Second Time At UFC 103

Henderson vs Franklin

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced a rematch bout between Dan “Hollywood” Henderson and Rich Franklin at UFC 103.  The pair had fought back in January of 2009 as part of the UFC 93 main event.  The razor-thin bout ended in a split decision win in favor of the hard-hitting Henderson.  Immediately after their fight, Franklin showed extreme disappointment with the decisions made by the judges.  It seems like Franklin wasn’t the only one disappointed because the UFC decided to make this rematch bout in a span of just 8 months since their last duel.

Since their first match-up, both fighters have each acquired a victory over their opponents.  Franklin went on to defeat Wanderlei Silva via a unanimous decision at the UFC 99 ‘The Comeback’ event.  Henderson defeated Michael “The Count” Bisping via a brutal knockout at UFC 100.

Sources close to this rematch bout say it will be contested at 205 pounds (light heavyweight).  Henderson is trying to attain a win over Franklin in order to get his second chance at the middleweight title against Anderson “The Spider” Silva.  On the other hand, Franklin continues to persue his first opportunity to fight Lyoto Machida for the light heavyweight belt.

UFC 103 is cheduled to take place on September 19th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.  Also on the card is a battle between UFC welterweights Mike “Quick” Swick and Martin “Hitman” Kampmann.  A win for either fighter there will most likely get their chance to fight Georges St. Pierre for the 170-pound title.  Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic is also expected to return to the octagon after making a 3-fight deal with the UFC.  Cro Cop will be taking on the Brazilian Junior Dos Santos as part of the main fight card.
