Chuck Liddell On Shogun Rua: “I Am Going To Try To Knock His Head Off” (UFC 97)

Chuck “Iceman” Liddell is prepared to make a statement at UFC 97 when he faces the former Pride FC superstar Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.  The ex-UFC light heavyweight champion has lost 3 of his last 4 fights, which has been a huge disappointment for most of the Iceman fans.  On April 18th, Liddell plans to beat Rua and move on up to get the title he once had at 205.  In order to do so, he’ll have to defeat the very determined Rua who is also forced to add a victory to his record.

Liddell understands the hurdle ahead of him, but it’s definitely not something new to him.  At 37 years old, Liddell believes that he belongs amongst the top notch fighters of his weight class.  His last fight was a knockout loss to current UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad “Sugar” Evans.  Liddell wants to eventually acquire a rematch fight against Evans if he is able to take Rua out of his path.

Snip from the Iceman:

“I am looking to get back to competing for the title. I want to get back to the top and put some of my past fights behind me and get my revenge…. I am in great shape. I have been waiting to fight Rua for a long time. He was one of the best in Pride and seen as one of the top guys until he lost to Forrest so this is going to be a great fight…. I am going to go after him. I am going to pressure him and make him prove that he is in shape. But basically I am going to try to knock his head off.”
