ProElite has decided to add another fight to the upcoming EliteXC card that is scheduled to take place on May 31st. The event will take place in Newark, New Jersey as part of the first ever to be televised live on a national television channel–CBS.
Phil Baroni is coming off a very difficult loss that could have made him Icon’s middleweight champion. Instead, the long battle went in favor to the now current champ Kala Kolohe Hose. Both men exchanged pretty well throughout the first four rounds, but the Hawaiian native was able to claim victory when he defeated Baroni via TKO-strikes in the fifth round.
Prior to that, Baroni lost to the current Strikeforce middleweight champion Frank Shamrock who is also scheduled to fight on March 29th against Cung Le. Baroni will look to bounce back from his defeat and redeem himself amongst the New Jersey crowd as well as in front of a national TV audience.
Murilo “Ninja” Rua left his EliteXC middleweight title behind when he was submitted via a rear-naked choke by UFC veteran Robbie “Ruthless” Lawler. After Ninja suffered a very vicious defeat and lost his title, he was invited over to England to take on Xavier Foupa-Pokam at Cage Rage 24. It was there where he learned from his mistakes and slipped in a rear-naked choke on Xavier.
All Ninja wants is revenge, but he’ll have to pass through Baroni if he wants his chance at the title once again. Surely, Baroni won’t be looking for a third loss in a row and definitely not on CBS. However, the fight can go either way and it all goes down to who wants it the most.
