Carlos Condit Says Fighting Nick Diaz At UFC 143 “Is What The Fans Have Been Screaming For From The Welterweight Division”

Nick Diaz was originally scheduled to headline the card opposite Georges St Pierre for the Welterweight title at UFC 137.  However, Diaz was pulled from the fight on September 7th, due to failing to make media appearances.   In the same card, Carlos Condit was promoted from his fight with BJ Penn to replace Diaz and face St Pierre.  St Pierre was expected to defend his title against Condit on this card, but had to withdraw due to knee injury.   Nick Diaz vs. BJ Penn was promoted to the main event.

St Pierre vs Condit was then set to take place at UFC 143.  However, on December 7th, 2011, it was revealed that St Pierre had an ACL injury that forced him to withdraw for ten months and from the bout.  Diaz will now face Condit with the winner receiving an interim title belt.

After the massive confusion of who is going to fight who, Condit strongly feels that his upcoming fight against Diaz is a bout that MMA fans have been eagerly waiting for.

From Carlos Condit:

“Seeing everything that’s happened over the past couple months, I kind of just had to laugh. It’s crazy, a lot of ups and downs but after all this turmoil and stuff, it ended up going my way. Whether it’s an interim title or not, this is what the fans have been screaming for from the welterweight division. They’re looking for exciting fighters, guys who go out and put it on the line and come too thrown down win, lose or draw. I think both Diaz and myself are those guys, but George St. Pierre is the champion and he will remain the champion until me or someone else beats him.”
