Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira To Undergo Hip Surgery, Out Until Late Spring or Early Summer 2011

UFC heavyweight fighter Antonio Rodrigo ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira was forced to undergo knee surgery not too long, canceling his rematch bout against Frank Mir At UFC 119.

“I tore my ACL so I had the surgery and it’s going to take maybe five to six months to heal,” Nogueira said over the weekend.

His manager Ed Soares now reports that Minotauro will be undergoing a necessary hip surgery as well, leaving the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert sidelined an extra six months.  The former UFC interim heavyweight champ is expected to make his octagon return sometime in mid-2011.

From Minotauro’s manager Ed Soares:

“He’s had surgery on his knee so far, and we’re waiting on when he’s going to do his hip surgery…Probably within the next couple weeks…I think realistically from the time he has surgery, they’re saying until he puts his foot in the ring it will probably be six months. I’m assuming late spring, early summer.”
