The current Strikeforce heavyweight champion was set to defend his title for the very first time against Fabricio Werdum at the upcoming “Carano vs. Cyborg” event.  Due to a bar fight he was a part of earlier this year, he injured his hand and was forced to cancel his June 6 Strikeforce title bout against Brett Rogers.  The fractured hand continues to bother the Dutch fighter tremendously, which obligated him to drop a bout once again.

It is unknown at this point if there is a possibility of an interim heavyweight title now that Overeem has failed to defend his belt since he first attained it back in November of 2007.  Strikeforce may also decide to find a replacement fighter to face Fabricio Werdum and set it up as a regular heavyweight battle.  We’ll keep you guys posted on the latest fight card of the upcoming Strikeforce “Carano vs. Cyborg” event.
