Affliction’s second event has been to take place on October 11th at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Affliction: "Day Of Reckoning" will be the name of the Affliction 2 event and former UFC heavyweight champions Josh "The Babyface Assassin" Barnett and Andrei "Pitbull" Arlovski will battle it out in the main event according to their website at afflictionclothing.com.
On July 19th, Affliction inaugurated their first mixed martial arts event at the Honda Center In Anaheim, California. Josh Barnett took on Pedro Rizzo in a rematch bout many were anxious to watch. Rizzo had defeated Barnett back in February of 2001 over at UFC 30: Battle On The Boardwalk. This time though, Barnett proved to be the better fighter as he knocked out Rizzo in the second round. Barnett has won five of his last six fights, losing only once to current UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at former PrideFC’s organization- Pride Shockwave 2006.
Andrei Arlovski also participated in the first Affliction fight card as he took on former IFL heavyweight contender Ben Rothwell. Rothwell was coming in with a 13-fight winning streak, but the former UFC heavyweight champ proved to be the better man that night as Arlovski finished Rothwell via KO-punches in the third round. Arlovski now looks to add his fifth consecutive win on October 11th as he faces Barnett, labeled as the #3 heavyweight MMA fighter in the world.
Unfortunately, Fedor Emelianenko looks to be to be scratched off of the Affliction 2: "Day Of Reckoning" fight card due to a hand injury he suffered in his win over Tim "Maine-iac" Sylvia. Fedor was originally scheduled to take on Arlovski as part of the main event, but the injury forced the Affliction organization to create the Barnett vs. Arlovski bout. Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort will face Matt "The Law" Lindland as part of the event as well. Several other bouts are soon to be released and we’ll be sure to keep you guys posted on that.
