Affliction 2 “Day Of Reckoning” Event Re-Scheduled To January 17

Keith Kizer of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) confirmed the Affliction 2 cancellation when he said "It didn’t work out for this one, but we hope to have (Affliction’s) third show here in Las Vegas."  The Affliction 2: Day of Reckoning fight card scheduled for October 11 at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada has been officially postponed to January of 2009.

The Oct. 11 event was previously headlining former UFC heavyweight champions Josh "The Babyface Assassin" Barnett taking on Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski.  Prior to the re-scheduling of the second card, Affliction representatives had stated that the winner of this bout would then face current heavyweight champ and Russian Sambo expert Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko.  However, it seems like things are expected to change in the next few months.

Affliction admits that ticket sales were somewhat weak and they did not want to risk low pay-per-view sales as well.  PPV buys for their debut event held on July 19th were relatively lower than expected, causing them to lose several million dollars.  Although it was a loss they felt would help get their name across the MMA world, they feel that pushing the event a few months ahead would give them time to promote the show further.

The #1 heavyweight in the world, Fedor Emelianenko, had participated in the first Affliction show.  Due to a hand injury he suffered during his rear-naked choke win against Tim Sylvia, Fedor would be forced off the October 11 card.  With the second Affliction show moving to most likely January 17 of 2009, it seems like we will be seeing the Russian champion after all.  The question now is, how will the entire fight lineup look by January?  The card will certainly change and we’ll keep you guys posted on the scheduled date and lineup once we’re informed.
