Alistair Overeem plans on making his Strikeforce return since acquiring the heavyweight title after defeating Paul Buentello back in November of 2007. In a recent radio interview, Overeem tells us that he’s scheduled to fight on the Strikeforce May 15 card against Brett Rogers.
Rogers is coming off his first MMA loss to Fedor Emelianenko back in November 2009. The 265-pound Minnesota fighter is eager to bounce back strong by adding a victory over former PrideFC fighter Overeem. Rogers continues to be one of the biggest threats in the Strikeforce heavyweight division so expect a strong comeback.
As for Overeem, he seemed pretty content with his overall K-1 performance in the past few events he participated in. He told media that now he hopes to focus solely on MMA, targeting a possible bout against no.1 title heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko sometime later this year. That’s if Fedor is successful against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Fabricio Werdum, expected to take place on an undetermined future card.

Alistair Overeem To Fight For K-1 First Before Defending Strikeforce Heavyweight Title In 2010
December 28, 2009 by admin

Alistair ‘Demolition Man’ Overeem has not defended his Strikeforce heavyweight title since his victory over Paul Buentello back in November of 2007. The question everyone seems to ask is whether or not Overeem would come back to the United States anytime soon to defend his title? When exactly will he put his title on the line and why hasn’t he fought for Strikeforce in over 2 years?
His manager Bas Boon tell us what to expect from the Demolition Man in 2010:
Share“I never said he wasn’t fighting in April. What I said was there will be a fight by the end of March or April in K-1, and actually, he did very well in K-1 and he’s got an extremely good contract. Commercial-wise, it’s better for him, and we agreed to this already on K-1, that we will do that fight. After that fight, he will fight in Strikeforce. Two, three times, whatever is available in May, June, July, we don’t care. Think about it, man, he’s broadcast in 150 countries (on K-1). Right now, he’s got more sponsors than he ever had before. In his own country, he had a crazy rating during the Grand Prix, but also on EuroSport and also in Thailand. And this is where the UFC isn’t even broadcast. UFC is not even broadcast in Europe. Nobody knows about the UFC. Semmy Schilt and Alistair Overeem are gods there. You’re talking about a continent with 280 million people. I understand Americans look at America as the number one country in the world, but we also have stadiums with 20,000 people and broadcast live on TV all over Europe and in a lot of different countries. Worldwide, (Alistair) gained a lot more popularity, financially he got a lot better off, and that doesn’t mean we’re not going to be obliged to our contract with Strikeforce. Yes, he’s going to fight in 2010, and it will not be mid, but it will be earlier in the year. In May, for sure, he will fight in America. It just depends on the date.”

From the official Strikeforce website:
ShareNEW YORK (December 10, 2009)–Former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) heavyweight champion and undefeated mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Bobby Lashley has signed a multi-year agreement with STRIKEFORCE and will make his debut for the world championship MMA promotion at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida on Saturday, January 30.
The 6 foot 3 inch, 250 pound Lashley, also a former collegiate wrestling star for Missouri Valley College and member of The United States Army, will face an opponent that has not yet been determined during the live, SHOWTIME® telecast of STRIKEFORCE: Miami, the historic, first-ever STRIKEFORCE event in the state of Florida.
In his last MMA start on June 27, 2009, the 33-year-old pulverized and scored a first round (3:17) TKO on 6 foot 5 inch, 350 plus pound goliath Bob “The Beast” Sapp with a barrage of punches in Biloxi, Mississippi. The win brought Lashley’s overall MMA record to 4-0.
“I’m looking forward to fighting for STRIKEFORCE and challenging myself by taking on some of the top heavyweights in MMA,” said Lashley, a native of Junction City, Kansas and resident of Denver, Colorado.
After getting his feet wet with several matches in both the WWE Raw and SmackDown! shows in 2005 and 2006, Lashley captured the WWE United States Championship by defeating rival competitor “JBL.” During this stint with the league and another in 2007, Lashley wrestled several top superstars, including The Big Show and John Cena.
Lashley made his MMA debut on December 13, 2008, earning a 41 second TKO over Joshua Franklin after Franklin sustained a cut that would not allow him to continue their fight.
Earlier this year, Lashley joined Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling. In his first appearance with the league on July 30, he helped tag team matchup partner Mick Foley defeat superstars Kurt Angle and Kevin Nash.
Tickets for STRIKEFORCE: Miami officially go on-sale tomorrow/Friday, December 11 at the BankAtlantic Center ticket office as well as online at www.Ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800)745-3000.
