Former UFC light heavyweight fighter Houston Alexander is rumored to face ‘Kimbo Slice Killer’ Set Petruzelli as part of the upcoming Moosin’s Apri 23 show at the DCU Center in Worcester.  It just so happens that Alexander is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Kimbo Slice, meanwhile Petruzelli is known for his 14-second knockout victory over Kimbo right before the demise of EliteXC back in October of 2008.

The main event will be headlined by former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia taking on 5-time World’s Strongest Man champion Mairusz Pudzianowski.  Sylvia is coming off a win over Jason Riley at the Adrenaline MMA 4 event, after losing back to back fights against Fedor Emelianenko and then to boxing veteran Ray Mercer.

Pudzianowski made his MMA debut with a win over Marcin Najman back in December of 2009 at the KSW 12 event in Warsaw, Poland.  The Polish “Dominator” is still expected to fight Robert Paczkow at KSW XIII on May 7 this year.

From BostonHerald.com:

A source told the Herald, that a matchup between Houston Alexander and Seth Petruzelli is in the works for Moosin’s Apri 23 show at the DCU Center in Worcester.

The 30-year-old Petruzelli was on the cast of season 2 of the Ultimate Fighter as a heavyweight. He’s currently on a three-fight win streak, which includes a 14 second knockout victory over Kimbo Slice at EliteXC in 2008. Petruzelli currently trains in Orlando at The Jungle MMA and Fitness with Tom Lawlor.

Alexander is on a two-fight losing streak, including a loss to Slice at the Ultimate Fighter Season 10 Finale in December. Alexander went 3-4 in the UFC before being cut after the loss to Slice. The 37-year-old Nebraska native made waves when he upset Keith Jardine in his UFC debut in 2007.

The card is expected to be headlined by former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia vs. strongman competitorMariusz Pudzianowski. The card will be the first major MMA show in Massachusetts and is expected to air live on pay-per-view.

Seth "The Silverback" Petruzelli is the most talked about mixed martial arts fighter these days.  He defeated internet-famed backyard street fighter Kimbo Slice via KO within 14 seconds of the first round back in early October of 2008.  Discussions have been made in regards to a possible rematch, but nothing is certain just yet.

Here’s the complete interview with Seth Petruzelli (props to FightersOnlyMagazine):

Question: It was big news when you knocked Kimbo Slice out earlier this year. Looking back, what is your take on that fight?

Me fighting Kimbo and people saying it was a huge upset, I was a huge underdog, this and that, it kinda ticks me off. He was…

Petruzelli Says He Was Told To Stand And Trade With Kimbo, Jared Shaw Denies And Responds (EliteXC “Heat”)

Kimbo Slice was prepared to meet with UFC’s former Superfight champion Ken Shamrock on October 4th, 2008.  However, Shamrock injured himself hours before the fight and was forced off the fight card.  What would EliteXC do now with such a highly promoted event that was just underway??

Seth "The Silverback" Petruzelli was given the chance of a lifetime when he was offered a main event heavyweight bout against the streetfighter everyone was talking about, Kimbo Slice.  Kimbo was undefeated coming into the fight, with 3 wins and 0 losses.  To many, Petruzelli didn’t stand a chance against the monstruous Kimbo.  Nonetheless, the Silverback stunned the world in just 14 seconds as he caught Kimbo right in the jaw, opened up a cut above his left eye and sent him straight to the mat for good.

During one of Petruzelli’s several post-fight interviews, he stated that EliteXC officials wanted him to keep the fight standing up even though he planned on shooting for a takedown as part of his strategy.  Here’s the snip:

"It was an opportunity to step up… and do what I know I can do…The promoters kind of hinted to me, and they gave me the money to stand and trade with him.  They didn’t want me totake him down, let’s just put it that way."

The Vice President of EliteXC, Jared Shaw, denied the "hinting" issue and says it never happened.  When asked if Petruzelli’s comments were true, Shaw immediately replied with:

"Absolutely not…Whether that was something Seth was taken out of context or Seth was trying to say something different, I don’t know.  What I can tell you, I was in the locker room with Seth with the contract; that did not happen…Why in a million years would we ask Seth to not take Kimbo down?  That’s crazy.  That’s all Kimbo’s been working on is the ground game.  Ken Shamrock, 84% of his wins are submission and through the ground, so Kimbo was ready for the ground.  If anybody knows Seth Petruzelli, he’s a K-1 fighter, I wouldn’t want him standing.  So to say ‘don’t take him down,’ that’s ridiculous."

At one point during the 14 second knockout, you see Shaw screaming at the referee.  He says that he felt there was an illegal hit to the back of Kimbo’s head when Seth went on his rampage of punches to finish off Kimbo:

"I may have reacted that way, and I still believe there was a hit to the back of the head, but I’m not in control of the situation…I don’t file the protests and anything I say doesn’t really matter at that time.  I’m essentially a fan like everyone else…but as the promoter of both sides, I have no business reacting at all.  That’s why I apologize to Seth Petruzelli first and foremost.  I’m excited to work with Seth; I’m excited to promote Seth…It’s not the first time you’ve seen me go crazy about a ref’s decision and it has nothing to do with Kimbo…look at Jared Hamman and Poai Suganuma the first time around.  It was a very quick stoppage; I was very upset.  I always side with the ref at the end of the day, no matter what I think in the head of the moment.  The ref has the hardest job in the cage."

Only a few hours prior to the EliteXC main event, Kimbo Slice was informed that Ken Shamrock would be scratched off the fight card.  As he was warming up for the fight, Shamrock sustained a laceration above his left eye and acquired six stitches to close up the cut.

Seth "The Silverback" Petruzelli replaced the injured Shamrock with short notice, which left many fans pretty upset.  Kimbo seemed a bit upset with the situation as he was interviewed minutes before the fight, but said that he would take the fight either way.  Petruzelli stunned the crowd at the BankAtlantic center when he landed a short right hand punch on Kimbo’s face, putting the famous internet street brawler right to the mat for good.  With only 14 seconds into the fight, Petruzelli would be named as the first mixed martial arts fighter to put away Kimbo Slice.

After the fight, Petruzelli admitted that both fighters were coming into the cage with no particular gameplan.  They were not given any time to study or prepare for each other, but the bout still went on and The Silverback took home a huge upset victory.  The 28-year old is now a hero to many in the Ft. Myers, Florida area.  We have been informed by very close sources of ours that Petruzelli will be having an after-party at Vintage in downtown Orlando, Florida tonight–Sunday, October 5th.

Here are the rest of the results for the EliteXC "Heat" event:
