The former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le is expected to return to the Strikeforce cage to face Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith as part of the December 19th main event. Le talks about his MMA return and responds to some of Jake Shields’ comments:
From Cung Le:
Share“Everything came together so fast…I wasn’t expecting to come back so soon. I had a (movie) project I was working on right now, but it got pushed back till next year, so I figured I’d have a couple months to get in shape. … I sat down with Scott and told him to give me two weeks. I called (American Kickboxing Academy trainer) Javier Mendez, and I started training. And after the first week, [Scott] goes, ‘How do you feel?’ I said, ‘Oh, I’m very sore.’ But the second week was a lot better, and now I have six more weeks to go. Ready or not, here I come… (In regards to Jake Shields’ comments] I’m actually honored that top fighters want to fight me…It means I’ve done something right and made a big impact in MMA. But right now, I take one fight at a time, and if I do well, I’ll look forward to what’s going to be next and who’s next. But right now, I need to make sure to get rid of this ring rust…I think Jake’s always looking to promote the next fight and things like that, so I don’t know.”

The Strikeforce ‘Evolution’ event has been scheduled to take place at the HP Pavilion arena in San Jose, California. This December 19th event will headline Cung Le vs. Scott ‘Hands of Steel’ Smith while the co-main event is expected to feature a must-see battle between two of the best grapplers in the world. Olympic Silver medalist Matt Lindland returns to the cage to face Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza.
Le had given up his Strikeforce middleweight belt in order to pursue a movie career. He has finally agreed to put his acting skills to the side, agreeing to return to the cage to do what he loves best- mixed martial arts. His goal is to get passed Smith in order to get a step closer to Shields who recently acquired the title after a unanimous decision win over Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller. As for Smith, he is looking to bounce back strong after losing to Nick Diaz in June earlier this year.
Tickets for the Showtime-broadcast event, which will go head-to-head with Zuffa, LLC’s “WEC 45: Cerrone vs. Ratcliff” event which go on sale next week. The Showtime event starts at just $30, are scheduled to go on sale to the general public at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) on Friday, Nov. 13, at Ticketmaster.com.

Nick Diaz vs. Scott Smith Added To June 6 Strikeforce Fight Card

The Strikeforce ‘Lawler vs. Shields’ fight card is already taking shape with its most recent addition of Nick Diaz vs. Scott ‘Hands of Steel’ Smith. Diaz is coming off a huge win over former Strikeforce middleweight champion Frank Shamrock. He has won 4 consecutive bouts, all by way of TKO. The upcoming bout is set at a catchweight of 179 pounds.
Snip from Nick Diaz:
“I think this is a great fight for me, but I really hate that (Smith) brings his kids to every one of his fights because now I’m going to be made out to be the bad guy or some sort of villain after I beat him up. At the end of the day, I’m going to do what I have to do though and take him out.”
Scott Smith is also coming into this bout after defeating the hard-hitting Benji ‘Razor’ Radach via KO in the third round. Smith acquired his second consecutive win after losing to Robbie Lawler back in July of 2008. The next bout against Diaz is expected to be a stand-up brawl just like most of his fights.
Snip from Scott Smith himself:
“I usually take a few weeks off, get out of shape and go up to about 210 pounds and wind up spending a few weeks just getting back in shape, but I decided I wasn’t going to do that this time. I’m 195 pounds right now and I feel great. Diaz is a great fighter. He’s going to come in there and out grapple me and out strike me so what I have to do is go in there and beat him up. I actually think this is more of a dangerous fight for him than it is for me”
The action-packed fight card is scheduled to take place on June 6th at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The event will be televised on Showtime and will headline a must-see bout between Jake Shields and Robbie ‘Ruthless’ Lawler. Also on the card is Phil ‘New York Bad Ass’ Baroni taking on Joe ‘Diesel’ Riggs as part of the televised portion.
