Patrick Cote Wants Second Shot At Anderson Silva For UFC Middleweight Title

Patrick ‘The Predator’ Cote has just one thing on his mind, a rematch against Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva for the middleweight title.  In a recent interview, Cote talks in detail about his loss to Silva at UFC 90.  Unfortunately for the Canadian fighter, he blew out his knee within the first minute of the third round.  The referee had no other choice but to stop the fight and Cote can’t stop thinking about the opportunity he lost that night.

Cote hasn’t fought since  October of 2008, but he’s finally 100% recovered and ready to make his octagon return against Alan Belcher on May 8th at UFC 113.

From Patrick Cote:

“If I fight (Anderson Silva) again I think I am going to do the same thing, I think I learned that if you’re not scared of him right away you have a good chance to win and that’s what I did. I was there in the first second of the fight, I took the center of the Octagon and I showed him I wasn’t scared of him. This guy is not a machine; he is a human like me and you, so you have to believe in yourself. The worst part of fighting Anderson Silva is that it’s so hard finding training partners like him, nobody moves like him and nobody fights like him. So if I fight him again the surprise aspect of how he moves and how he fights is not going to be a surprise anymore, I know him and how it feels to be in the same Octagon with him, so that is going to be a huge advantage for me. I want big fights all the time. I don’t do this sport to be number 2, to be second, I want to be world champion — I think I have the ability to be world champion.”

Patrick Cote Knee Injury

Patrick Cote underwent knee surgery for his ACL back in November of 2008.  Now, “The Predator” was forced to undergo a second knee surgery and this time it’s the MCL.  Cote plans to return to the UFC octagon sometime in Spring of 2010.

“My ACL is good, but my MCL is busted…So I have to go under surgery again…It’s like the bad luck is still against me, but what can I do?  I’ll be back. I’m going to heal very, very well and after that my knee will be 100-percent. It sucks, but hey…I can’t wait to be back.”

Patrick Cote: Thales Leites “Looked Very Scared and Nervous” Against Anderson Silva At UFC 97

Patrick Cote was very disappointed with the UFC 97 main event between Anderson Silva and Thales Leites.  Although Silva clearly won all three rounds, Cote thought the fight itself was pretty “boring” overall.   Cote remembers UFC 90 as if it were yesterday and it upsets him to remember that he could not continue fighting Silva due to a knee injury he suffered in very beginning of the first round.  Cote can only hope to have a second chance at the UFC middleweight title against Silva some time down the road.

Snip from Patrick Cote (props to fighthype.com):

“[The UFC 97 main event fight was] boring!  At least I tried to engage with [Anderson] Silva…Fu&%, I’m actually a little pissed.  I like Thales [Leites] and all but that (UFC 97 main event fight) ws awful.  He looked very scared and nervous in there.  I wasn’t scared at all.  I want Silva back!”
