Babalu Sobral Steps In To Fight Robbie Lawler On June 17 For Strikeforce, ‘Mayhem’ Miller Possibly Suspended

Strikeforce fighter Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller will most likely be suspended for igniting the brawl that was started during Jake Shields’ victory speech on the April 17 Strikeforce event in Tennessee. Although no official details in regards to Miller’s suspension was released, what we do know is that he will no longer be headlining Strikeforce’s June 17 card against Robbie ‘Ruthless’ Lawler.
In order to save the main card, Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral has agreed to step into the cage to face Lawler instead. Babalu was originally scheduled to fight on May 29 for DREAM 14 in a light heavyweight tournament. However, his fight was scrapped so he was free and ready to fight just about anyone…talk about good timing and a great opportunity for the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert.
Lawler and Babalu have agreed to fight at a catchweight of 195 pounds.
From Strikeforce CEO:
“(Jason)Miller isn’t fighting because we believe, in speaking with the Tennessee Athletic Commission, that he will put under some type of suspension. After reviewing the tape (of the April 17 incident), we felt that Miller shouldn’t headline our next event. We will honor the Tennessee commission’s decision when it’s announced.”

Jake Shields admits that Jason “Mayhem” Miller is a well-rounded fighter, but he plans to shut Miller’s mouth at the Strikeforce ‘Fedor vs. Rogers’ event. Shields wants to put the drama on the side because he prefers to show it in the cage, stating that he wants to “beat the living crap out of” Miller.
Strikeforce ‘Fedor vs. Rogers’ is scheduled to take place on November 7th at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The bout between Shields and Miller will be for the Strikeforce middleweight title now that Cung Le has stepped down from his throne in order to pursue his acting career.
From Jake Shields:
“I have nothing against Jason (‘Mayhem’ Miller). I think he’s a tough fighter, but I’m gonna go out there and beat the crap of him on the 7th, ya know? Jason likes to talk and I’m gonna go out there and once we’re in the cage, you’ll see what happens. I’ve certainly prepared on my end. When I get through Jason Miller, then we’ll see who they bring at me. Seems like they’re bringing in some big middleweights so there’s lots of possibilities. I feel the best that I have ever felt. I’m going to go out there and try to smash Mayhem. I’ve been working on my stand-up, wrestling and jui jitsu, every aspect. I’m gonna go out there and make a statement and beat the living crap out of him.”
