UFC lightweight contender and MMA’s most hyper cardio machine fighter Clay Guida talks about his upcoming UFC 117 fight against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Rafael Dos Anjos.  He talks about how important it is to attain his second consecutive victory over Dos Anjos and his quest for a UFC lightweight title.

The future goals for ‘The Carpenter’ includes more exciting fights, awards for ‘Fight of the Night’, ‘Fight of the Year’ and winning the UFC lightweight belt.

From Clay Guida:

“I don’t pay attention to how many fights I’ve won, I just pay attention to how many consecutive wins I have. The UFC knows how I bring it. They know that if they want to have the most exciting lightweight fight and especially lightweight title fight, I’m going to be in it. They haven’t had a very exciting lightweight title fight in a while. I’m gonna be the first champion to win Fight of the Night, Fight of the Year, and walk away with that strap. I go to bed hungry at night and wake up hungry in the morning for that belt. That’s all I think about.”

UFC lightweight fighter Kenny Florian was excited to get past Clay Guida at UFC 107 this past weekend.  This puts Florian right back on the map as he gradually works his way up in the lightweight division.  Despite his UFC 101 loss to BJ Penn, Florian continues to show how good of a fighter he is in his weight class as he submits Guida after a terrific stand-up performance.

Florian breaks down his UFC 107 bout, explaining what he wanted to display for his fans and his quest for another shot at the title.  He talks about the improvement with his stand-up game and thanks George St. Pierre’s training camp which included Tristar coach Firas Zahabi.

From Kenny Florian:

“[It] was my night. Clay Guida is a phenomenal fighter. I wanted to go out there and take my time. Peter Welch and Firas Zahabi really improved my striking. I’m trying to get better, I want another shot at the title. I wanted to get in there and trade a little bit and put on a good show for the fans, and really implement my game. I wanted to be aggressive and get back to being the Kenny Florian that people know me for. That was kind of the theme for this fight. It was an elbow that really cut him very bad inside. The key really was mixing it up on Clay. I was able to do that and I caught him with a nice elbow that cut him open and rocked him, and the finisher was a strike that set up the big right hook. It was a short right hook that caught him right on the button. He went face-first into the canvas and I knew it was my time to capitalize.”

UFC lightweight fighter Clay ‘The Carpenter’ Guida is scheduled to fight Kenny Florian as part of the UFC 107 pay-per-view fight card.  ”The Carpenter” plans to bounce back from his split decision loss to Diego Sanchez over at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale event.  Prior to his loss against Sanchez, Guida was riding on a 3-fight winning streak.

Although he is very well prepared for his upcoming bout this Saturday night, he tells the media and his fans how much respect he has for Florian.

From Clay Guida:

“Kenny’s very laid back, which I can be too. I have the utmost respect for him and that he’s one of the top fighters in the world. Look where he’s come from. He came from being a soccer player, to a jiu-jitsu practitioner, to an MMA fighter. The guy played soccer in college, which is awesome. And the guy turned out to be, he was in the finals of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ against Diego Sanchez at 185. A year and a half later he cuts down and fights Sean Sherk for a five round title bout, which was fight of the night I believe. Nonetheless, he only maybe won one round, but going to a decision with Sherk is awesome… And then he won his next six or seven fights, or something, to come and fight the best fighter in the lightweight division, BJ Penn.”

Kenny Florian

The two-time UFC lightweight title contender Kenny Florian is coming off a submission loss to current champion BJ Penn.  Although his loss has placed him a few steps away from a third crack at the title, Florian feels stronger than ever before.

From Kenny Florian:

“My body definitely has changed. I definitely am at my biggest and at my leanest…. I feel very, very strong. I feel I’m at my quickest, and I’m in tremendous shape right now…. We’ve really gone back to the basics. I feel like it’s been a total rebirth, a total upgrade of what I’ve been doing…. I believe people are going to see even more of a change in the way that I look and fight from here on out. It’s going to be more of a change than what it was after the Sherk fight…. He’s one of those guys who’s a survivor, and he’s very, very tough. I have my work cut out for me. This is a great fight for me to get back on track. He’s a very well-respected opponent, he’s one of the best out there and that’s who I want to fight. Those are only the people I want to fight.”
