Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva will be making his Octagon return sometime in February or March of 2011. Apparently, after his first round against Chael Sonnen at UFC 117, he told his Jiu-Jitsu coach Ramon Lemos that he hurt his rib and could not breath properly. After going to the hospital, x-rays revealed a cracked rib which will keep him sidelined until he is 100% recovered.
From Ramon Lemos, Silva’s BJJ coach:
“After the first round he [Anderson Silva] said he broke his ribs. He told me he could not breath because of the rib. I told him to forget the rib and work the movement of legs and he would get the triangle… After the fight he went to the hospital and did an x-ray and the doctor said he did not break it, it was just a crack. Anderson is expected to return in February or March.”

UFC middleweight fighter Vitor ‘The Phenom’ Belfort seems eager to return to the octagon in hopes to fight current champ Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva. Belfort was originally scheduled to fight Silva earlier this year at UFC 112, but he was forced to cancel his fight due to corrective shoulder surgery. ‘The Phenom’ seems healthy and ready to make his cage return and what better timing to tweet UFC President Dana White and let him know that he wants ‘The Spider’ next.
From Vitor Belfort’s twitter account:
“Dana please give me the fight that every one wants to see. This fight will be the fight of the century. Give me Anderson.”
Anderson Silva’s Manager Ed Soares: “I Don’t Necessarily Think An Immediate Rematch Is Legitimate”

Anderson Silva’s manager Ed Soares comments on last Saturday’s UFC 117 bout between Silva and Chael Sonnen. He considers Sonnen simply another opponent who gave Silva a hard time, but in the end it was ‘The Spider’ who claimed victory once again and remains UFC middleweight champion. So why should Sonnen get an immediate rematch?
From Ed Soares:
“[Anderson] showed what a champion is made of. He fought through all of that adversity and through all of the things that were going on in there and he stayed focus and never gave up and that’s the heart of a champion … Once he tapped, Chael kept fighting. He didn’t let go because he wasn’t sure of what was going on. He wasn’t going to give that position or submission up until he was sure. Once again, Chael tried to deny that he tapped until he told the ref, ‘I believe you,’ it’s like, come on dude, that’s the same shit you did with Filho and Babalu. If you’re going to tap, then tap … I mean, I don’t necessarily think an immediate rematch is legitimate. It’s not like he won by decision. You got submitted, man. Anderson got a few bumps and bruises, but let’s be realistic, you’re on a guy 23 minutes and you couldn’t finish him? Why should he get a rematch?”
