Shogun Declines Teixeira, Prefers Standup Battle Against Vera At UFC on FOX 4

Reporter:  Brandon Vera is a striker. It’s going to be a standing up fight, right?

Shogun: Yes.  Brandon Vera is a famous name in the UFC.  He likes to fight standing and I like it, too. The fans also like it, so it’s going to be a good fight for sure.

Reporter:  What was the situation regarding Glover Teixeira?  President Dana White says you didn’t want to fight Teixeira and could be cut from UFC because of that.  I believe it was a misunderstanding, now you have the opportunity to explain what went on.

Shogun: [The UFC] offered Glover [Teixeira] to us.  I talked with my team and we decided Glover would not be interesting now.  Glover is a top fighter. I know him and respect him, but he just got into the UFC.  He has one fight in the UFC. He needs to get more fights. I had nothing to gain with that fight.
