The 5-time UFC champion, Pat Miletich, is interviewed on an ESPN special. Pat talks about his success as a trainer, known worldwide for developing 11 world champions including former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia. He has also coached the Silverbacks from the IFL to back to back titles.
The Ohio State Athletic Commission (OSAC) has released the list of fighters who were medically suspended due to certain injuries that were acquired during their UFC 77 bouts, which were held on October 20, 2007.
A few of the injuries included Rich Franklin’s broken nose/fractured hand when he faced Anderson Silva for the middleweight title. He re-broke his nose after having it injured by Anderson the first time they met- at UFC 64 Unstoppable. Another injury that we can remember seeing during the main fight card was Kalib Starnes’ cut over his forehead. The cut was so deep, the fight had to be stopped as he lost to Alan Belcher via TKO-cut.
Here is the rest of the list and the suspension time they will serve according to the OSAC:
- Rich Franklin- 30 days
- Kalib Starnes- 30 days
- Eric Schafer- 30 days
- Forrest Petz- 60 days
These fighters will be suspended for the time shown above before having a chance to fight again in any type of organization. Forrest Petz requires 60 days rather than 30 plus medical clearance before he is given his next fight due to the severity of his injuries.
Recap on UFC Media Conference: Dana White response on Randy Couture’s press conference held last Thursday
Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta respond to Randy Couture and the media conference he held on Thursday of las week. The UFC and its representatives discussed various topics including Couture’s payroll, his wife’s statement about his Couture not being promoted and his future in the UFC.
Fertitta was not happy at all with Couture’s speech as he felt that he was putting the UFC down. He didn’t understand why Couture was doing all of this when 8 months ago, he was a witness to the contract signing. There was absolutely no disagreement when he signed the 4-fight deal, but he decides to complain now. Fertitta didn’t ever expect something like this to happen, especially coming from a world class MMA fighter like Couture. Dana White and John Mulkey went on to talk about the details on Couture’s
Din Thomas has been arrested by Florida police officers after having a non-licensed mixed martial arts event held in Port St. Lucie. According to the police report, Thomas promoted a small event, where he charged fans a $10 USD entrance fee and sold raffle tickets within the venue.
The event consisted of 7 fights and all fights were regulated by one referee using all MMA rules. A warrant was issued by officer Brian Kenny to arrest Thomas for the non-licensed event. Prior to his arrest, Thomas had pointed out that the event was made to help out his student fighters gain experience and raise money. At this point, there is no information as far as bail nor specific details on the penalties Din Thomas will face. More information regarding his arrest will be posted as soon as we are informed.
Thomas recently suffered a torn meniscus and injured his ACL after fighting Kenny Florian in a lightweight bout at UFC Fight Night 11. He lost the bout due to a sudden injury that happened within the first round. He was unable to continue the fight, but Florian quickly slipped in a rear naked choke and submitted him before the referee discovered the injury. Thomas was currently training in a goal to fight in a rematch against Florian, but with these recent arrests we won’t know how this could affect his future UFC career.

Fabricio Werdum has been inactive since fighting Andrei Arlovski at UFC 70-Nations Collide. Many expected a much better performance by the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master as he lost via a unanimous decision. The former PrideFC heavyweight will look to face a rematch fight with Gabriel Gonzaga who lost to Randy Couture for the heavyweight title. Both of these black belt BJJ masters have already fought before at the Jungle Fight 1 tournament held in Brazil where Werdum finished Gonzaga off in the third round via TKO-strikes in September of 2003.
Gabriel Gonzaga lost his chance in acquiring the heavyweight belt in a very brutal war that kept him farther away from the title. According to graciemag.com, he will look for revenge upon Werdum when he faces him at UFC 80. Both men are coming back into the octagon with losses, so expect another action-packed bout between the 2 Brazilians.
Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta will be holding a press conference on Tuesday, October 30th. The conference looks to focus on Randy Couture and his current situation with the UFC.
Will he stay? Will he leave? These are a couple of the questions that have been asked these past few weeks since the day Randy notified the UFC and the MMA world that he wanted to resign. In a press conference Randy Couture held late last week, he explained the different reasons for his resignation. It seems like Dana and Lorenzo have agreed to set a meeting and talk about the future of the current UFC heavyweight champion.
The press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, October 30th at 4pm ET/1pm PT. Lucky for us, we will all have the chance to follow up on this conference as it will be aired at UFC.com. We will have a recap for everyone that misses tomorrow’s media conference.
